Licensing FAQ
This page summarizes the key licensing concepts for Queso's self-hosted edition and how they differ from our managed service. For full legal language, refer to the terms and privacy documents in this section.
What is the Queso Lite Edition?
Queso Lite is the open-source, self-hosted build of the platform intended for personal use and research purposes. It runs on your own infrastructure and follows the copyleft GNU Affero General Public License v3 (AGPLv3) with the additional permissions described in our terms. Queso Cloud, the fully-managed edition, uses a separate commercial agreement.
Am I allowed to modify the source code?
Absolutely. Fork the repo, hack on it, and share your patches. Under AGPL you must publish your derivative work under the same license, and ensure users interacting with your modified build can access its source.
Can I remove or replace Queso branding?
No. The Community Edition ships with trademark restrictions: names, logos, and links must remain intact in the UI unless you purchase a commercial license that explicitly grants white-label rights. This protects users from confusing unofficial builds with the supported product.
Are there other licensing options?
Queso Bookmarks has a commercial licensing which is suitable for commercial use. With a Queso Bookmarks enterprise license, Queso Bookmarks is fully re-brandable, and the entire interface can be white-labeled.
